Cacao: Heart Opener & Path to Inner Connection

Wellness Wednesday

In the world of natural remedies and ancient healing practices, cacao, often referred to as "the food of the gods," is a powerful heart opener.

Originating from Central and South America, cacao has been used for centuries in spiritual and medicinal ceremonies. In recent years, cacao has found its way into mainstream consciousness as people seek alternative ways to open their hearts, foster connection, and deepen their spiritual journeys.

In my practice of the past three years, drinking and serving cacao I fully feel the transformative qualities of this heart opener.

Cacao's history dates back thousands of years to the ancient Mayans and Aztecs, who regarded cacao as a sacred gift from the gods. They used cacao in elaborate rituals, believing it had the power to connect them to the divine and open their hearts to deeper levels of understanding and compassion.

Cacao ceremonies were and still are central to spiritual practices. I am grateful to have studied this powerful way of healing.

The scientific explanation for cacao's heart-opening effects lies in its chemical composition. Cacao is rich in several compounds that promote feelings of happiness and connection, such as:

Phenylethylamine (PEA): Known as the "love molecule," PEA is a natural compound found in cacao that can induce feelings of euphoria and elation. It is associated with love and attraction, which contributes to the sense of heart expansion during a cacao ceremony.

Anandamide: Often referred to as the "bliss molecule," anandamide is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in regulating mood and emotions. Cacao contains compounds that can boost anandamide levels in the brain, promoting a sense of joy and relaxation.

Tryptophan: This amino acid is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated

with feelings of happiness and well-being. Cacao's high tryptophan content can support the brain in producing more serotonin, further enhancing the heart-opening experience.

The way I use cacao is intentionally in ceremonial settings, on the new moon to call in intentions for the lunar cycle, in my community if someone requests a private cacao ceremony for themselves or their family, and as a daily practice.

Cacao can help open the heart in various ways

Emotional Release: Cacao has the power to release pent-up emotions and create a safe space for self-reflection. It allows individuals to confront and let go of emotional blockages, paving the way for a more open and compassionate heart.

Self-Acceptance: Cacao can facilitate self-acceptance and self-love, enabling individuals to embrace their vulnerabilities and insecurities, leading to a more authentic connection with themselves.

Connection with Others: Cacao ceremonies, often conducted in group settings, promote a sense of unity and connection with others. Sharing this sacred elixir can lead to a deepening of relationships and an increased sense of empathy and understanding.

Spiritual Growth: Cacao is a potent tool for those on a spiritual journey. It can be used to enhance meditation and self-discovery, providing insights and revelations that help individuals expand their consciousness and connect with their inner selves.

If you're interested in experiencing the heart-opening benefits of cacao, you can start by incorporating it into your daily routine. And by participating in one of my twice monthly cacao ceremonies. On the new moon I celebrate with guided meditation and Reiki byAlle Weil. On the full moon I celebrate with Five Rhythms Dance with RebeccaRose.

Please come to one of our offerings where you will feel the love of cacao and grow with our community. Cacao especially in community is a compelling tool for opening the heart and fostering deeper connections with oneself, others, and the world.

Whether you choose to enjoy cacao in your daily routine or participate in ceremonial settings, it can be a path to inner growth, self-discovery, and a greater sense of compassion and unity.

Embrace cacao as a heart opener and experience the magic it holds within its beans.

Peace & Light,

Christina
