Wellness Wednesday Embracing Self-Care in the Cozy Autumn Season

As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp, there's a magical transformation that takes place in the world around us. Especially here in Maine where fall is usually long and the changing light creates a magical feeling as the sun begins to sit lower in the sky.

Autumn, with its colorful foliage and pumpkin-spiced everything, invites us to slow down,

cozy up, and embrace the season's unique charm. It's the perfect time to reconnect with yourself and prioritize self-care.

As we transition from the vibrancy of summer to the quiet introspection of winter lets celebrate this beautiful season and make it a cornerstone of our self-care routine:

Slower Pace: Unlike the frenetic energy of summer, autumn invites us to slow down, savor the moments, and cultivate mindfulness.

Cozy Comfort: Think warm sweaters, soft blankets, and hot beverages. Autumn's chill provides the perfect excuse to indulge in cozy comforts. I love to brew spicy teas with oat milk and honey.

Reflection: The introspective nature of autumn encourages us to turn inward, reflect on our lives, and set intentions for the future. This may include one of our cacao ceremonies or a mini-retreat.

Harvest: Seasonal produce like apples, pumpkins, and squashes can inspire healthy eating habits and nourish your body. Here is one of my favorite butternut squash soup recipes. And remember fall is a great time to get rooted by eating lots of root veggies. Carrots, beets, turnips, leeks, onions, burdock you get the idea.

Here are some of my go-to autumn relaxation ideas which, I have time for now that summer is over.

Forest Bathing: Take a leisurely walk in the woods or local park to immerse yourself in the changing colors of autumn. Allow the soothing sounds of rustling leaves and the earthy aroma to rejuvenate your soul.

Warm Beverages: Sip on herbal teas, spiced lattes, or hot cocoa as you curl up with a good book, or simply enjoy the warmth and comfort of your favorite mug.

Candlelit Evenings: Create a cozy ambiance by lighting candles, a fireplace or for me, the wood stove. The soft, flickering light can be incredibly soothing and conducive to relaxation.

Mindful Journaling: Dedicate time to reflect on your feelings, set goals, or simply express gratitude in a journal. Autumn's introspective atmosphere makes it an excellent time for self-reflection.

Hot Baths: Treat yourself to a warm bath with scented salts or essential oils. Follow it up with a skincare routine to keep your skin hydrated in the drier weather. Try my friend Alle's fabulous line of skin care here at Flora ex Machina.

Digital Detox: Consider taking short breaks from screens and social media to reconnect with the present moment and reduce digital overwhelm. It's a hard one, I know. Even a few minutes less on Instagram and no screens before falling asleep will make a big difference.

Autumn's message of transformation, reflection, and slowing down provides a valuable reminder that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity for a balanced, healthy life. It's a season that encourages us to turn inward, listen to our bodies, and prioritize our well-being. And of course, therapeutic massage plays a big part in rejuvenation any time of year.

In this cozy season of change, take the time to nurture your body, mind, and spirit. Embrace the beauty of autumn, surround yourself with warmth, and allow self-care to be your constant companion on your journey of personal growth and well-being.

Peace & Light
